KM presents PU composites machinery

KraussMaffei Group is continuing the rollout of its iPul composites technology, with plans to featuring it during Composites Europe in Stuttgart, Germany, Sept. 19-21.

KM's iPul system encapsulates the resin infiltration of the fibers, which traditionally takes place in open vessels, in an injection box. Enclosing resin infiltration allows the use of fast-reacting systems such as polyurethane and increases production speed from the usual 0.5 to 1.5 meters per minute to approximately 3 meters per minute, the company said.

In addition, the company will be showing its C-RTM pressure process, where C stands for compression. The addition of resin, usually polyurethane, is carried out in a slightly open mold, fiber content of significantly over 50 percent is possible in the process, KM added. Surface RTM where parts with a paintable polyurethane-rich surface will also be on display, Krauss Maffei said.

"The market for composite continues to develop very dynamically. Important drivers of innovation are automated processes that allow manufacturing that is ready for large series production, said Erich Fries, head of the composites/surfaces business unit of KraussMaffei.

KM has shown iPul at special events in North America, Europe and Asia this year.
