Preparation of Inorganic?Organic?Framework Nanoscale Carries as a Potential Platform for Drug Delivery

The authors report a facile electrospinning approach to fabricate the DSS@CS?Ilt/PLGA/PU composites for drug delivery systems. In this study, the adsorbent chitosan?coated illite (CS?Ilt) is prepared as a carrier to load a model drug?Danshensu (DSS). The DSS?loaded CS?Ilt are dispersed in electrospinning solution to fabricate hybrid nanofibers. The hybrid nanofibers show a sustained release profile, good mechanical properties, and good biocompatibility. The adsorbent chitosan?coated illite (CS?Ilt) is prepared as a drug carrier to load an acidic drug?Danshensu (DSS). Then, the model DSS loaded CS?Ilt particles are dispersed into poly(lactic?co?glycolic acid) (PLGA) and polyurethane (PU) solution to fabricate electrospun hybrid nanofibers. The results of XRD and FTIR indicate that DSS molecules are successfully adsorbed onto the surface of CS?Ilt. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) result reveals that the DSS@CS?Ilt/PLGA/PU hybrid nanofibers own uniform and smooth morphology. Meanwhile, compared to PLGA nanofibers, the mechanical properties seem to get better after addition of both CS?Ilt/PU and PU. Cell viability assay and cell morphology observation show that the formed DSS@CS?Ilt/PLGA/PU composite nanofibers exhibit good biocompatibility. Importantly, the loaded DSS within the CS?Ilt/PLGA/PU hybrid nanofibers show a sustained release profile. With the strikingly reduced burst?release profile, the developed DSS@CS?Ilt/PLGA/PU hybrid nanofiber may find various potential applications in the field of pharmaceutical science.
